What people ask before treatment

How do I check a plastic surgeon in the UAE?

Ask for the surgeon’s full name and licence number and check it with the health regulator of that emirate: the DHA in Dubai, the DHCA in Dubai Healthcare City, the DOH in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, or MOHAP in most northern emirates. The licence shows whether the doctor is registered as a specialist or consultant in plastic surgery. Ask too how many of these operations the surgeon carries out in a typical year.

Who should I meet before deciding on surgery?

You should meet the surgeon who will actually operate, not just a coordinator or a sales adviser. Ask about the risks of the operation and what recovery will look like for you. Take time to think afterwards, and be wary of offers that expire the same day.

What should a surgery quote cover?

Get it in writing, with the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, the facility, any overnight stay, compression garments, medicines and follow-up visits, and whether VAT is added. Ask what happens, and who pays, if you need a second operation.

I am visiting the UAE for surgery. How long should I stay?

Ask the surgeon before you book your flights. Follow-up visits take time, and flying soon after some operations is not advised. Ask too who will look after you once you are home if a problem appears later.
